NCAM Shows Latest DTV Access Advances at NAB2004

At the National Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB) this year, the CPB/WGBH National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) will once again provide demonstrations of the latest digital television closed captioning, video description and other accessibility technologies, as part of the DTV Drafthouse exhibit area in the South Hall Upper Lobby in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
For the first time, this year's NCAM demonstrations will use only consumer-grade DTV products available at retail, including set-top receivers, HD displays, an HD-PVR and a D-VHS recorder, courtesy of LG Electronics/Zenith, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and JVC.
NCAM's "DTV Access Information Center" in the DTV Drafthouse will feature local broadcast of the PBS|HD channel, courtesy of PBS and the Las Vegas PBS member station, KLVX-DT. Most of the program content on PBS|HD has both CEA-608 and CEA-708 (advanced) captions, and some programs offer video description.
NCAM will also provide an accessibility-related vendor/booth guide, web-based information on accessibility issues for managers and engineers, demonstrations of DVDs with 'talking menus', and other technology demos.
