As the U.S. shifts to digital television, broadband, on line and on-demand delivery of media, WGBH's Media Access Group— the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family National Center for Accessible Media and the Services Division (The Caption Center and Descriptive Video Service®—continue to provide guidance for media distributors, equipment manufacturers and end users on access features, their production and delivery to homes, schools, workplaces and mobile devices.
Movies
The Media Access Group at WGBH has a long history of making movies accessible to people with hearing or vision loss. NCAM has pioneered solutions for delivery of access services to movie fans during regular showings in theaters and now is developing solutions for in-flight entertainment systems, movies which play on handheld devices and more. As these solutions are developed, WGBH's Caption Center and Descriptive Video Service® provide full service captioning and description to the studios and companies that are responsible for creating and distributing the magic, increasingly, to everyone everywhere.
Web + Multimedia
NCAM has created a variety of tools, and written a number of free guidelines documents which help make Web-based media accessible to all users.
