MAGpie2 Installation

MAGpie is a Java2 application which runs on Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7. It requires the installation of several applications, and it is critical that you install them in the order indicated below. Please note that MAGpie 2.5.1 removes support for the GRiNS player. If you are using GRiNS to caption RealMedia source files, do not replace your current version of MAGpie with version 2.5.1. (MAGpie 2.5.1 will still export SMIL files for the RealPlayer, however.) Windows Media clips cannot be used as source files except with MAGpie 1.0.
MAGpie version 2.0.2 should still run on non-Intel or pre-Leopard Macs (not later than OS 10.4.x). You'll also need to install QuickTime version 6.x.
Download and install MAGpie (required)
Run MAGpie
Run MAGpie from the Start menu. The splash screen will appear; after a few seconds it will be replaced by the editor. If the editor does not appear after the splash screen disappears, you must uninstall and reinstall QuickTime. Run MAGpie again and you will see the editor after the splash screen disappears.
Congratulations! MAGpie is now ready to use.

NOTE FOR OS X USERS
MAGpie is a Java-based application which requires QuickTime Java in order to run properly. Unfortunately, Apple has deprecated the QuickTime Java interface and no longer provides support for it; therefore, MAGpie will no longer run on the Mac. We regret that at this time NCAM does not have the funding to create a new version of MAGpie which is compatible with the Mac OS. You can, however, use a virtual machine such as VMware Fusion, Parallels or Boot Camp to run Windows and MAGpie on your Mac.MAGpie version 2.0.2 should still run on non-Intel or pre-Leopard Macs (not later than OS 10.4.x). You'll also need to install QuickTime version 6.x.
Download and install the latest version of Java for your operating system [required]
- Download and install the latest version of Java for your operating system.
- Run the installer, accepting all defaults.
- You can verify the successful installation by opening a command prompt window and typing:java -version
Download and install QuickTime (required)
MAGpie requires QuickTime and the QuickTime Java component, which is automatically installed with the QuickTime Player.- Download and install the latest version of QuickTime for your operating system. You do not need to purchase a QuickTime Pro license in order to perform basic captioning or description operations with MAGpie.
- Run the installer, accepting all defaults.
Download and install MP4Box (optional)
MP4Box (Windows only) is necessary only if you want to integrate closed captions into MP4 or 3GP source files, playable on BlackBerry® smartphones. Download MP4Box.Download and install MAGpie (required)
- Download the Windows installer. Run the .exe file and accept all the defaults.
Run MAGpie
