CaptionKeeper is a software program which converts television-based closed-caption data into web streaming formats. It takes closed-caption (line-21) data as input, and creates simultaneous outputs suitable for live and archived multimedia presentations in RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player, and Breeze Meeting (Live) formats.
All of the streams can be fed simultaneously, so you can take a captioned live event or other video signal and simultaneously feed a Real (Helix) server, a Windows Media Encoder, a live Breeze Meeting, and capture the time-stamped text files in their respective native formats for Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Breeze, and QuickTime Player.
Typical use cases include:
- Live-event captioning streamed to the web.
- Web conferences hosted in Breeze Meeting.
- Digitizing captioned archival material. Captions can now easily migrate to the rich-media domain.
- Repurposing captioned television content for the web.
Hardware Requirements:
- Wintel-type computer
- RS-232 serial port (for serial line-21 input)
- USB 1.0 port (for USB line-21 input)
- Ethernet port
- Source of closed-caption data (line-21 VBI data-recovery decoder)
Software Requirements:
- 32-bit MS Windows (tm) (NT, 2000, XP, etc.) operating system
